Why therapy?

Home-Testimonials-1.jpg

Sometimes it can feel overwhelming when you're facing challenges in life on your own. Therapy offers a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment to explore your thoughts, feelings, and concerns.

It’s for anyone who wants to work through a difficult issue, come to terms with a painful experience, or simply understand themselves on a deeper level. Finding a qualified and compassionate therapist you trust and feel comfortable with is essential, and it's perfectly normal to meet with a few different therapists to find the right connection.

I have supported clients experiencing issues including:

  • Anxiety

  • Stress

  • Low mood

  • Low self-esteem

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Loss and Grief

  • Life changes

  • Perimenopause

  • Acquired disability

What to expect?

In our sessions, you can expect me to meet you with a warm, accepting, and authentic presence. My role isn't to give you advice or tell you what to do. Instead, I'll listen attentively and, through exploration, help you gain new insights and perspectives, as well as tools to help you manage in difficult situations. This empowers you to find your own way forward and make the changes you need.

Each session lasts 50 minutes, and we would typically meet weekly. You are always in control of your journey and can choose to end our work together at any time.

The difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

You might hear the terms counselling and psychotherapy used interchangeably, and there’s a good reason for that — they often overlap. I'm trained in both, so I'm here to work with you in whatever way best suits your needs. But it can be helpful to understand the general difference.

Counselling

Counselling tends to be focused on immediate issues or a specific crisis you're facing right now, such as intense work stress, grieving a loss, a relationship breakup, or a difficult decision. It's usually a shorter-term process aimed at supporting you and helping you navigate a current problem effectively.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a deeper, longer-term process. It's for when you want to explore long-standing issues or patterns that are affecting your life today, which often have roots in the past. We would work together to understand what has shaped you as a person, helping you to break free from old conditioning and patterns of behaviour that are no longer helping you. This type of work can bring about lasting psychological change.

Ultimately, the approach we take will depend entirely on your unique situation and what you hope to achieve. We'll decide together based on what feels right for you.

How many sessions will I need?

The length of therapy is unique to each person, it depends on what you are experiencing and what you're hoping to address. We can discuss this in our first session. Some people prefer to set a specific number of sessions, while others prefer to keep it open-ended. A common approach is to work together for about six sessions and then review our progress to see if you'd like to continue.
